Project Overview
Facility: Elm Creek Watershed
Location: Texas
General Contractor: Patin Construction, LLC
Services: Flowable fill

Project Summary
Nettles installed flowable fill throughout abandoned pipes at a floodwater dam. Our team navigated several site access challenges to complete the project on time and within budget.
The Problem
The scope of work specified Low-Density Cellular Concrete (LDCC) for the abandonment and decomissioning of the dam structures. There were several flow-through pipes at the dam, which typically allow for calculated flow during normal conditions, but now needed to be filled with LDCC.
Typically, LDCC injection points are at ground level. This site was challenging to access, given the off-road pour location and uneven terrain.

The Nettles Solution
LDCC is highly flowable, making it ideal for applications that are hard to access or far from the pour location. The Nettles crew worked with the contractor to set up the site, and maneuvered bracing and hoses to reach the lower injection point.
The pour ended up requiring a higher volume of LDCC than estimated. Thanks to frequent communication between Nettles and the contractor, our crew was ready with enough material to continue the pour beyond the amount first discussed.
The four Nettles team members completed the scope of work within one day.
